The effect of Hot-bag on the self-voiding of patients undergoing anal surgery

Abstract
|
|
|
This is a quasi-experimental study to test the effect of Hot-bag on the self-voiding of patients undergoing anal surgery. A quasi-experimental research was designed to test the effectiveness of the Hot-bag on the self-voiding with one experimental group and one control group.
Subjects in both groups were matched as closely as possible to avoid to effect of the differences to the group characteristics such as age, sex and trait anxiety. Trait anxiety was measured on both groups prior to the surgery by Spielberger´s a State Trait Anxiety Inventory.
The research was conducted in general surgery wards of Seoul National University Hospital. The 60 subjects who participated in the study was systematically divided into experimental group and control group which vas decided by random sampling method. Among 60 subjects, 30 were placed in the experimental group and 30 in the control group.
Hot-bag as an experimental application was given to the subjects in the experimental group only, after surgery for until first self-voiding or catheterization and simultaneously voiding patterns were checked.
The result of the test show as follows; The experimental group which implicated Hot-bag have more effect of self-voiding than the control group without Hot-bag. The difference was statistically significant at 0. 1 level.
The experimental group which implicated Hot-bag have less urine amount of first urination after surgery than the control group without implicated Hot-bag. The mean and S.D. of urine amount in experimental group was 506.00(148.36) cc and the mean and S.D. of urine amount in control group was 591.66(128.79) cc. So t-value between both group, was -2.39, the difference was statistically significant at 0.05 level.
The difference of first voiding time between both group was not statistically significant at 0.05 level.
